Nobbe Orthopedics, Inc. provides comprehensive orthotic and
prosthetic devices on a referral basis. With nearly
fifty (50) years of service to the Santa Barbara County
community, they combine established, traditional values with
new technological advancements to benefit SBRHA members.
They provide the highest quality control and the capability
for true custom fabrication of all prosthetic and orthotic
devices.
Nobbe Orthopedics provides patient driven services.
Their website,
www.nobbeorthopedics.com provides direct resources for
patients. It offers downloads such as device specific
instruction sheets, copies of their newsletter, routinely
updated product information, HIPAA compliance and Medicare
supplier standards. In addition, they pair new
patients with established similar patients to provide and
encourage a "peer support" mechanism.
Nobbe Orthopedics is also available to provide in-service
education to local hospital, therapy and physician office
staff. Training staff in the proper donning, care and
use of devices helps ensure patient outcomes, compliance and
satisfaction.
They routinely survey patients, referral sources, physicians
and insurers and adjust their service delivery based upon
responses. For example, their most recent surveys have
suggested the need for additional brace fitting follow-up
after hospital discharge. Patients were presenting for
adjustments with devices being worn incorrectly and were not
following wearing instructions. In response, all
patients now receive a reminder notice to contact their
office and schedule a brace fitting follow-up appointment
shortly after discharge in addition to the routinely
scheduled follow-up the next day following delivery.
Since implementation, their hospital inpatient service
delivery satisfaction scores have risen dramatically, and
post discharge brace related complaints logged have dropped
by 90%.
Nobbe Orthopedics has developed several products to meet
specific clinical applications. The most recent is the
Post Amputation Limb Guard designed to help protect the
recent amputation site and allow healing by preventing
trauma to the surgical site in non-ambulatory patients.
Nobbe staff was also selected to perform clinical trials of
Bracelink, a direct to CAD measurement based brace design
system. They continue to be at the forefront of stance
control orthotic designs and were invitees to participate in
the first educational program for the microprocessor
controlled orthotic knee hinge system. Microprocessor
controls continue to be at the center of orthotic and
prosthetic developments.
