Provider Regulatory Training

CenCal Health has a variety of trainings in different subjects to learn and grow as a provider. The training resources located below are available to assist Providers stay informed of the latest standard of care practices.

ACEs and Resilience Training

The Pediatric Resiliency Collaborative (PeRC) provides Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and resilience training for pediatric providers and clinic staff. The PeRC Training Portal offers free virtual training for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit. Learn more about available training here.

DHCS ACEs Aware Training

A consensus of scientific research demonstrates that cumulative adversity, especially when experienced during childhood development, is a root cause of some of the most harmful, persistent, and expensive health challenges facing our nation. California is leading the way by training and providing payment to Medi-Cal providers for ACE screenings to significantly improve health and well-being across the state’s communities.  If you are interested in adding this service to your practice, please attend the ACEs Aware training and attest to completing the training for trauma and trauma-informed care

Cultural Competency & Seniors and Persons with Disabilities (SPD)

The goal of this training is to educate CenCal Health external partners on how to provide medically necessary and covered services to all members in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner regardless of race, color, national origin, faith, ancestry, religion, language, age, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, health status, disability, or gender identity.

The training will focus on six areas that will assist providers in better understanding the needs of our members:

  1. Serving a Diverse Population
  2. Culture and Cultural Competence
  3. Communication
  4. Cultural Competence and the LGBTQI+ Communities
  5. Race, Ethnicity, National Origin, Faith
  6. Seniors and Persons with Disabilities

Medi-Cal for Kids & Teens EPSDT Training

Explore the Department of Health Care Services’ training resources that help to strengthen understanding among Providers and bring awareness of the medically necessary services given to children and young adults enrolled in Medi-Cal.

Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) guarantees all medically necessary services to children and youth under age 21 enrolled in Medi-Cal. As of 2023, the State of California refers to EPSDT as Medi-Cal for Kids and Teens.

This training aims to strengthen understanding and awareness of Medi-Cal for Kids and Teens among Medi-Cal managed care plan-enrolled providers and increase access to children’s health services. California’s managed care plans, including CenCal Health, must ensure that all Medi-Cal Network Providers receive proper education and training regarding Medi-Cal for Kids and Teens at least every two years.

DHCS guidance and All Plan Letter 23-005, states that all provider groups, Network Provider must attest to completing the training.

Compliance, Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA), and HIPAA Privacy & Security Training (Compliance Training)

The CenCal Health Compliance, FWA, and HIPAA Privacy & Security Training Program is designed as an effective method of communicating to CenCal Health Team Members, Senior Leadership, Governing Board Members, Delegated Subcontractors, and Business Associates, that they are an integral part of the Plan’s commitment to:

  • Prevent, detect, and report compliance concerns and potential FWA;
  • Protect Member’s Protected Health Information (PHI); and
  • Conduct business in an ethical and professional manner.

CenCal Health requires Delegated Subcontractors to provide Compliance Training to their employees, Providers, downstream entities, Board of Directors, and Contractors within 90 days of hire/start date, and annually thereafter.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) Training

CenCal Health is committed to advancing health equity so that our communities thrive and achieve optimal health together. Training our staff, network providers, subcontractors, and downstream subcontractors on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion is a critical component to advancing health equity for our communities. Please use the resources listed below for a comprehensive overview of our member demographics and foundational DEI concepts. Network providers are required to complete the training annually, per DHCS requirements.  

CenCal Health DEI Training Acknowledgment & Attestation Form

The goals of the training are to:

  1. Improve CenCal Health member outcomes by enhancing access to care, reducing health disparities, and providing better quality of care.
  2. Increase the ability for CenCal Health network providers to engage in culturally responsive care with populations faced with systemic disadvantages.
  3. Expand CenCal Health network providers’ understanding of the structural determinants of health and how they shape inequities in health outcomes.

The self-paced training consists of three modules:

 

  • Module 2: Exploring DEI through the Lens of Cultural Humility and CenCal Health’s Diverse Member Population
    This module offers valuable insights into the cultural groups within CenCal Health’s service area, shedding light on their perspectives and approaches to health and healing. It distinguishes between cultural competency and cultural humility, highlighting how each concept informs approaches to healthcare delivery. Additionally, this module discusses the three tenets of cultural humility and offers guidance on applying cultural humility effectively in healthcare settings.

 

  • Module 3: Connecting DEI to the Structural Determinants of Health
    This module explores the root causes of health inequities among distinct segments of CenCal Health’s membership, with a focus on structural and institutional racism. It also examines the connection between clinical outcomes and structural determinants of health.
