Safe Care

While you are in the hospital, or even when you are home recovering, you can be at risk for infections. It’s important to avoid infections so that you don’t have to go back to the hospital. An infection can quickly turn into sepsis. Sepsis is a serious condition in which the body responds improperly to an infection which can have a deadly reaction.

What can you do?

  • Wash your hands often.
  • Make sure to keep any wounds or scrapes clean.
  • Don’t touch broken skin, such as cuts or sores.

What can others do?

The best way to help prevent infections is for you and the people who come into your space to have clean hands.

Ask everyone who comes into your space to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer. Having hand sanitizer in plain sight can make it easier to ask visitors to clean their hands.
